New checks by version

A cluster builds on the framework version it declares. When it moves to a later version — or when a pipeline builds it ahead of time with the next one — an error or warning can appear without any change in the cluster: it usually comes from a check that the new version adds. Each page below lists the checks of one version, so that such a message can be recognized and fixed where it belongs, in the cluster.

The first page of a version lists the checks an existing cluster can meet just by moving to that version. The second one lists the checks of the metadata properties, components, attributes and directives that the version introduces: a cluster only meets them once it starts using one of these features.

Reading a version page

  • Read the pages of the versions above the one the cluster declares, up to the one it moves to.
  • Match the message by its code or, when it has none, by its text: variable parts are written {0}, {1}...
  • Level is the default level. A Warning only fails a build run with --warnaserror, or when the cluster raises it (see Cluster and pipeline hardening). An Error always fails the command that reports it (neos generate, neos check-metadata, or the build for an analyzer). A generation Error without a code cannot be lowered through GenerationLogLevels.
  • Fix the cause as the Fix column says. Lowering the level of a coded message hides the problem without fixing it (see Generation message level configuration).

An existing message that a version starts reporting in new places is listed in that version: for a cluster, it is a new check all the same. The same text can then appear on several pages, each row saying where the message is reported (an attribute, a directive, the content of an element): pick the row that matches the location in the message.

What the pages leave out

  • Codes that only label a failure already reported before, such as M0092, which codes the .NET compilation errors.
  • Messages reworded without changing what they detect.
  • Messages hidden by default or of level Information.
