Task Scheduler vs Task Runner

The Task Scheduler and Task Runner components have very similar names and are both closely related to background server methods but it is important to understand the difference between the two and their respective roles.

When do I need a Task Runner?

When a cluster contains at least one background server method, a Task Runner service is generated to run the background server methods. It is specific to each cluster and its presence is mandatory for the execution of background server methods.

When do I need a Task Scheduler?

A Task Scheduler is needed whenever you want to schedule the execution of background server methods. In this case, you need to deploy this cluster and it will communicate with the different business clusters to make them execute the scheduled background server methods via their respective Task Runner.
